company owned by retired Australian golfer Greg Norman, The Stripe Group, has purchased the Valderrama Golf Course, at Sotogrande, Cádiz, including associated facilities and properties.

Valderrama was previously owned by Soto Properties and Jaime Ortiz and 250 partners and Santander has advised them in the sale, the value of which has not been made public.

It is considered the best golf course in Europe, and was host to the Ryder Cup in 1997, and will host the Andalucía Masters between October 28 and 31.

Norman has strengthened the position of his company in Europe with the purchase, and in a statement said had consolidated the position ‘as leader in the business of golf events in all the world’.

It’s understood that a new project for the development of Valderrama will be presented shortly, ‘keeping the interests of the golf club members at a premium
