Saltman, aiming to gain a spot on the main tour for the first time since turning pro in 2007, finished a shot behind early leaders Julian Etulain and James Ruth.
Swanston's former Scottish Amateur champion John Gallagher opened with a three-under 69 while Capital man Mark Kerr carded a 72.
In Murcia, Craigielaw's Shaun McAllister hit a three-under 69 to share tenth behind early leaders, Luis Claverie and Paul Dwyer. Elliot Saltman began his challenge with a steady 71."
